Do you seek spiritual growth as a Christian but are uncertain of how to attain it? I want you to know that you’re not alone. The fact that you desire to grow is a big step already and I pray that you reach this goal eventually.
As a Christian who was once in your shoes, I am happy to share with you these secrets of spiritual growth. The truth is, the secret is in your hands, even if you don’t realize it. You have the ability to positively increase your spiritual growth by the choices you make as well as studying the Bible, associating with other believers, and praying.
Growing As A Newbie
As a new convert into the body of Christ, the feeling is exciting – and overwhelming to some people. You are in this whole new family with a totally different culture. To some people, this may appear strange and difficult at first. Especially if you didn’t grow up in a Christian home. You are just beginning to find your foot and learning about God. There is so much to learn and here you are hearing about spiritual growth. Is there any hope that you will attain the spiritual maturity you see others display? The answer is a resounding YES. Although everything seems strange and new right now, you will soon get to understand what Christianity is all about. This is not a competition of who speaks tongues and who sits on the altar. This is a personal journey to Christ. Your church understands this that’s why they make effort to help you settle in. The church is structured into different groups and levels to make it easy for new believers like you to grow from one step to the next. As you embrace activities in these groups, you will begin to see growth by the day.
Growth As A Dedicated Follower Or Disciple Of Christ
For many people, spiritual growth stops at the newbie stage because at this stage the excitement begins to wear off and Christianity begins to seem difficult to follow because of the many temptations you’re now faced with due to the many societal norms you’re used to that are no longer normal.
This stage can be confusing because you sometimes wonder how to navigate through it and the answers are vast, which makes this stage very interesting.
At this point, edification is discipleship in its purest form, since it encourages us to continue to grow in faith and in the Word, preparing us to live as Christ’s representatives on earth. We must edify one another with the word “as Christians” (Romans 14:19), knowing that we are born into the body of Christ and have access to an infinite amount of knowledge for the advancement of our faith.
Conclusion
Spiritual growth is a unique journey for all of us. Like Biological growth, Christians are expected to keep growing till they die. There is no final level of spiritual growth. So, whether you are a new believer just learning of God or a Bible scholar struggling with his faith, I want to encourage you to keep growing. Hold on. Keep your eyes on the goal, which is Christ, and don’t allow anything/anyone to steal this treasure you have found.
